Visionworks Partnership with Pittsburgh Zoo Collects Thousands of Eyeglasses for Disadvantaged

 

PITTSBURGH, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Last month, Visionworks® partnered with the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium to collect more than 4,500 recycled prescription eyeglasses.  The program offered free Zoo admission to those who donated a pair of glasses to New Eyes for the Needy, a non-profit organization that improves the vision of poor people around the world.

"All of us at Visionworks were thrilled to offer free Zoo admission for Pittsburgh area residents while at the same time providing the gift of sight for disadvantaged folks around the world," said John DiIanni, Regional Vice President.

One hundred friends of New Eyes gathered Saturday evening, February 6, 2010, at the home of Brad and Colleen Galle in Summit in support of the U.S. eyeglass voucher program. Music, magic, good food and fellowship set the tone for an enjoyable night, which raised friends and funds for New Eyes' work to improve the vision of the poor in our country.
